Renaissance characters from the Commedia del Arté were the birth of all dramatic and comedic characters used even to this day. From Shakespeare’s Hermia in Midsummer Night’s Dream to Mozart’s Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Columbina has appears in various forms—but always Colombina.
I have been creating Commedia del Arté masks for many years. People collect them, decorate with a group or just one. They always bring a smile and a conversation to design, and add an intellectual tidbit to decorations.
They are always on a papier-mâché base, and I set aside special and unusual shells, sponges and other objects from the sea to make each one unique.
